Week Eleven - Proud Mary
Now that my scale is working properly and I’m settled into the habit of moving regularly, I’m rolling along with 2 pounds lost this week. While I’m still not digging cardio machines (I’ve been substituting walking outside whenever possible), I’m proud of myself for sticking with it. I have, however, started to LOVE yoga.
Sure, my friend Nikki’s Yoga Studio 43 is phenomenal but the real benefit is that I’m seeing concrete results from my regular practice. For instance, I’ve struggled with balance my entire life (as a Libra I’d find this ironic if I believed in astrology bullshit), but in just a few weeks I’ve seen a significant improvement in my ankle strength and overall stability.
I love how yoga is all about small, incremental self-improvement which is compounding quicker than I imagined it would. This reminds me of the Kaizen Method of self-improvement which is basically to focus on incremental change of 1% everyday. This will give you a 37% increase over a year’s time. This works way better than expecting a large improvement, failing and then giving up. Consider what you could do to improve by 1% today.
Tina Turner’s Proud Mary interrupted my classical music playlist while I’m writing which seems like a sign I need to make it my latest playlist addition. If this song doesn’t make you want to move, you may not have a pulse. As always I’d love to hear about your weight loss, fitness victories and dietary challenges.
